Sinus Pain and CongestionSinus pain and congestion can happen for many reasons. It can be from allergies, a common cold, or chronic sinusitis. Depending on the situation, relieving sinus congestion may be as easy as using home remedies. At the very least, you may find temporary sinus pain and congestion relief from home remedies.

1) Use a Neti Pot and Saline Rinse

A Neti Pot is used to rinse out the mucus that is stuck in your sinuses. It may be difficult to use a Neti Pot if your sinuses are too congested, and it’s even recommended that you do not use one if your nasal pathways are completely plugged.

Using a Neti Pot will likely not be that comfortable the first time, but it can become easier over time. For directions on how to use the Neti Pot, check out wiki how’s directions. You can always talk to a pharmacist at your local pharmacy if you need further instructions on how to use one. Of course, the Neti Pot itself should always come with directions to follow.

2) Use a humidifier

When your sinuses are dry you can experience greater irritation. You can find relief in the form of a room humidifier.

When I talked to my allergist he recommended putting a humidifier right outside my bedroom door. If it’s too close to the bed, dust mites may be attracted to your bedding. Placing it near the bedroom door will prevent the room from becoming too humid and attracting dust mites but still give you increased humidity in the air to soothe your dry sinuses.

3) Take Medicine

If you aren’t using medicine to treat your sinus congestion, it’s probably a good idea to start. There are a wide variety of options for medicine that treat sinus congestion. An antihistamine with a decongestant component, such as AllegraD, ClaritinD, or ZyrtecD can help relieve congestion. If you do go with this option, keep in mind that you must get it over-the-counter (OTC) from a pharmacy. Other medicines that can help relieve sinus pain and congestion are benadryl or a general cold relief medicine such as Dayquil or Nyquil.

Whatever you chose to do to relieve your sinus pain and congestion, always talk to your physician before pursuing a remedy. If you don’t want to spend a lot of money on something that may just be a cold, you can visit a Target Minute Clinic or use Virtuwell to get an opinion for an affordable cost.
